Druze Village

"Live and give others to live."

This quote addresses the Druze philosophy of life. Even though they do not have autonomy as a nation they support and defend the respective government of the country in which they live. Druze men are expected to join the Israel Defense Force.

As we were eating lunch in a large room I noticed two pictures of this man. Later the Director of Druze Education told me that this was a religious leader who died four years ago at the age of 100.

The five colors of the Druze religious flag represent the five prophets who founded the faith. Each color represents the color of dress of each prophet. The Druze believe that all five prophets will return, much like the Messiah.

This sketch depicts a revolutionary religious leader in 1925.
