San Diego - Sha'ar HaNegev Teacher Exchange

For Miri

Who are these
Tough-skinned,
Soft-minded
Sabras?

These creeping,
Persistent,
Drought-resistant
Capers?

These humble, hearty
Hyssops, full
Of fragrant spice?

These straight, strong
Cedars of Lebanon,
Pillars for the temple?

These willowy reeds
Able to sway
With winds
But remain rooted?

These Jerusalem
Tel Aviv
Galilee
Kibbutzim
Soldiers?

The people of the land,
..."of wheat
and barley,

of vines

and fig trees,

and pomegranates;

a land of oil olive,

and honey."

Deut 8:7-8

The people who
Trust in "the rock"
Of Israel.

One of the main goals of the trip was to develop a relationship with our Israeli educational counterparts. We did. We spent four days with many wonderful people, all of whom value education, freedom, and life.

Ellen, who made aliyah from the East Coast of the United States, joined us the first night in Jerusalem and set the tone for our journey.

Miri joined us in Sha'ar HaNegev and accompanied us on the remainder of our tour.

We started a special relationship with Miri, artist and global dreamer. After talking and sharing experiences we decided to create a collaborative project. Over the next several months this page will reflect our combined imagery. Stay tuned.
