One hour and six minutes later, speakers around the ship crackled briefly, then carried the voice of Captain Evharson to the waiting crew.

"Approximately one hour ago, a crisis emerged on board this ship. During a routine, computer controlled turnaround maneuver, an engine malfunction caused the ship to accelerate into a corkscrew turn, a situation that posed a definite threat to the vessel. The situation was rectified by emergency shutdown of the engine. The incident was in no way the fault of the acting navigational officer, 2nd Nav Gregory Karwick. He will be suggested for a commendation when we reach our destination. This incident will delay our arrival approximately one week. The engine will be restarted immediately and our course resumed. This concludes the announcement."

The speakers crackled again, then fell silent.
