Sketchbook - Crayons
The following drawings have evolved out of an exercise I do with my students, drawing to music. It started when I was teaching art at Coronado High School. The chair of the visual art department, Laura Hill, a phenomenal teacher and person, used crayons with her students. I hadn't used crayons since childhood and thought, what a juvenile medium for high school students. Years later, I had a desire to break away from small detailed [uptight] pen and ink drawings. Toward that end I started using crayons with my students when we would draw to music. I discovered that the waxie crayons have wonderful properties that evoke a loose style with unexpected surprises. I hope you enjoy these a quarter as much as I enjoy creating them.
