Essential Ingredients:

Meets WriteDesign "Rules of Thumb" within website

Writing - Each book must include a minimum of three: memoirs from the memoir project; quotes that serve to introduce the spirit of each section within the chapbook or illustrate the story of the chapbook; examples of other forms of writing, including poetry, exerpts from shortstories, vignettes, or other works worthy of sharing your story; and clear evidence of revision and editing.

Design - Use typography as imagery and/or photography or art/illustration to unite the theme of the chapbook. The layout should reflect the use of a grid (3, 5, or 7 columns). Powerful use of white/negative space is critical to the layout. Each book must include a minimum of three: collages, experimental pages that use diecuts, mixed media-different papers or materials, photographs that capture a moment in time, sketches or drawings that show your thoughts, and cover art and text that invite the reader to look further. Optional elements include page numbers and table of content.

Technology - Use any software, InDesign, Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. that will help readability and overall creative expression. In addition to software we encourage the exploration of mixed media and techniques that will take the chapbook to another level of "readability."
