Art With a Voice Feature Article
Introduction
This assignment provides students the opportunity to explore different art movements, periods, and artists to find a style or genre that they would like to emulate. After completing this assignment, the content of which will go on the Historical and Cultural Context site, each student will work in the style of the artist researched in this project in subsequent works.


Essential Ingredients of Article

  • Title to capture our interest
  • Byline
  • Birth and death dates of artist
  • Artistic movement with which your artist identifies (Romantic, Realist, Impressionist, Victorian)
  • Examples of art created by the artist which demonstrate the traits of the artistic movement (at least five (05) major works if a visual artist and at five (05) excerpts or quotes if a writer)
  • Picture of artist
  • Brief biographical sketch of artist
  • Discussion of how artist represents traits of the movement with which he/she identifies (this is the focus of the article)
  • Works cited and citations for each quote


Due Dates
Select an artist who you would like to emulate, life dates, artistic movement, representational art pieces, works cited

8-31 - Completed draft of article text

9-04 - Revising and editing draft

9-06 - Production of article in Microsoft Word (with all art work in either jpg or gif formats)

9-06 - Final article due for sharing and assessment and one copy with all files emailed to: dkipperman@sdja.com

You have synthesized the essential ingredients: completley, mostly, somewhat

  • Title to capture our interest (3 points)
  • Byline (2 points)
  • Birth and death dates of artist (2points)
  • Artistic movement with which your artist identifies (Romantic, Realist, Impressionist, Victorian) (5 points)
  • Examples of art created by the artist which demonstrate the traits of the artistic movement (at least five (05) major works if a visual artist and at five (05) excerpts or quotes if a writer) (15 points)
  • Picture of artist (3 points)
  • Brief biographical sketch of artist (5 points)
  • Discussion of how artist represents traits of the movement with which he/she identifies (this is the focus of the article) (10 points)
  • Works cited and citations for each quote (5 points)

Total 50 points
